The work of Sofia Rocchetti explores what we are but do not wish to show: aggression and its multiple forms and colours. Even when her art and language are combined with design and its functional and aesthetic requirements, the artist's characteristic traits are not diminished.
The jewellery cases/boxes, made from semi-finished earthenware, are entirely hand-painted by the artist using the pure pigment technique. They develop the need for three-dimensionality, already seen in her pictorial works, and give concrete depth to forms that are recurrent in Sofia Rocchetti's language.
The simplicity of the form, in the shape of an egg, is enhanced by its own inherent symbolism and is in perfect harmony with the pictorial element. This latter increases the three-dimensionality of the form, both through the use of the sign, gesture and tactile approach to material characteristic of the artist’s own personal communicative and expressive journey, and through the cuneiform and geometric shapes that colour its surface.
Sofia Rocchetti’s interpretation of what would otherwise be a mere object of utility connects the person and their daily life to art.
Sofia Rocchetti's jewellery cases are painted entirely by hand on semi-finished earthenware. Each jewellery case/container is therefore unique and inimitable. The images serve the purpose of illustrating the limited series, which the artist reproduces to order. Any irregularities in the decoration and/or colours are intrinsic characteristics of Sofia Rocchetti’s pictorial technique and can be considered an added value and testament to work done entirely by hand.
