UPuglia – a design project aimed at promoting the region of Puglia – in its design and creation, TRUDDU is inspired by the trullo, one the architectural treasures of Italy and UNESCO world heritage. With the unmistakeable conical shape of its dome, which sits upon a circular structure, the trullo cross-pollinates the design of the enamelled ceramic pendant lamp, made in accordance with the ancient ceramic tradition of Grottaglie, whose name it also preserves.
TRUDDU is an elegant and essential indoor/outdoor lighting solution inspired by the minimal architecture of the trullo. The lime white body enhances the red pinnacle which, together with the jute cable, gives TRUDDU a clean, lean line that can satisfy demands for consistency of style in spaces with a modern, contemporary style, as well as the desire for a touch of the present day in those with an older, more traditional feel.
If the trullo is characterised in part by its almost complete lack of windows, and thus the scarcity of light that can enter, TRUDDU becomes the light that the trullo lacks, almost as if it seeks to become a spotlight on the Mycenaean and Phoenician cross-pollination that brought the trullo to the shores of the Mediterranean.
TRUDDU encapsulates the intimate charm of an ancient history and the feel of a contemporary age aware of being descended from it.
